Mooresville Police Department to Hold Drug Take-Back Event

MOORESVILLE, NC – Mooresville Police Department and Iredell County Safe Kids Coalition

will host a drug and syringe take-back event Tuesday, March 19, 2-5 p.m. at HealthSmart

Pharmacy, 594 N Main Street, Mooresville.

This initiative is designed to help the public prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by ridding

their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs and

syringes. The public can dispose of personal prescription medications and syringes at

HealthSmart Pharmacy on March 19 or drop them off at the Mooresville Police Department’s

drug drop box, located at 2487 Charlotte Highway, 24 hours a day.

Since this initiative began in 2012, Mooresville Police Department has collected and destroyed

more than 11,444 pounds of prescription drugs through take-back events and the drug drop box.

Drug deactivation kits for home use, poison prevention information, and drug lock boxes will

also be available at the March 19 event.

October 28 - Arrest in connection with 38-year-old cold case rape and attempted murder MOORESVILLE, NC

In early September 2022, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Detectives were asked to assist the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI) on a cold case investigation of a rape and attempted murder that occurred 38 years ago in Missouri. The cold case involved a rape and attempted murder that occurred on March 24, 1984, in Columbia, Missouri. The victim encountered an unknown suspect while walking to work and was abducted at knifepoint. The suspect drove the victim to a dead-end road where the victim was raped. The suspect then attempted to murder the victim and discard the victim’s body in a nearby creek. The victim sustained serious life-threatening injuries but survived. In 2020, the case was assigned to a cold case detective with Missouri’s Columbia Police Department (CPD) who utilized new DNA evidence technology to further the investigation. Mooresville Man Charged With 20 Counts of Second-Degree Exploitation of a Minor

  MOORESVILLE, NC – On January 21, 2024, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Detectives received a tip about inappropriate conduct on social media sites by an adult male, and Detectives began an investigation. The tip indicated that the suspect was using social media sites to attempt to meet with minors for sexual intercourse. The suspect was identified as Michael Dakota Richardson, 21 years old, of Mooresville. When confronted by Detectives, Richardson admitted that he had been trying to arrange a meeting with a minor for the purpose of sexual intercourse. Richardson was arrested and charged with (F) Solicitation of a Minor by Computer to Commit an Unlawful Sexual Act and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond. Richardson posted bond and was released. As part of the investigation, evidence was seized from Richardson’s home and examined by MPD Detectives.
