Sherrills Ford Man Pleads to Three Counts Forcible Sex Offense
MOORESVILLE, NC – On June 19, 2022, MPD Officers responded to a sexual assault call that
occurred at 1459 River Hwy in Mooresville. The victim stated that she met the suspect online
and agreed to meet in Mooresville on June 16. After meeting the suspect, the victim got into the
suspect’s vehicle and was taken to a remote parking lot at 1459 River Hwy where she was
forcibly sexually assaulted by the suspect. After the assault, the suspect left the victim in the
parking lot without her vehicle or phone. MPD Detectives were able to identify the suspect,
Michael Brandon Shinn, 31, of Sherrills Ford, using information from the victim about him and
his vehicle.
During the course of the investigation, Detectives learned that the suspect, who was targeting
women online, may be involved in similar incidents in other jurisdictions. As a result of the
investigation and collaboration with surrounding agencies, Mooresville Police Department
charged Shinn with two counts of 2 nd degree forcible rape and one count of 2 nd degree forcible
sex offense. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office brought additional charges of two counts of 1 st
degree sex offense and two counts of 2 nd degree kidnapping.
On July 23, 2024, Shinn took an Alford Plea for three counts of 2 nd degree forcible sex offense, a
combination of Mooresville and Lincoln County charges. He received one consolidated active
sentence of 50-120 months, sex offender registration for 30 years, and permanent no-contact
orders with the three victims. Once he is released, Shinn will be on probation for 10 years.
