DOLLAR TREE ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT APPREHENDED
MOORESVILLE, NC – On January 4, 2026, the Mooresville Police Department received a call for service in reference to an armed robbery at Dollar Tree located at 221-R Norman Station Blvd. Responding officers viewed surveillance footage from inside the store that showed a male suspect entering the store, approaching the employees, and producing a handgun. The suspect demanded the employees give him all of the money in the safe in the store office. Once the suspect had the money, he took the store’s phone and left the store.
Through investigation, it was learned that multiple armed robberies occurred at various Dollar Trees in other jurisdictions within the week prior to this robbery. Detectives determined that the suspect vehicle was a dark colored Honda sedan. Through further investigation, detectives identified a suspect through this lead.
Warrants were obtained for David Daniel Hunter, 62, of China Grove, North Carolina. On January 7, 2026, Hunter was apprehended with assistance from U.S. Marshals without incident in Bristol, Virginia. Hunter received no bond pending extradition and is currently being held in Abingdon, Virginia in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority.
Hunter was charged with Robbery with Dangerous Weapon and Possession of Firearm by a Felon. More charges are forthcoming from Mooresville Police Department, as well as surrounding jurisdictions.
