Javon Anthony Latrayvion Oroyster Marcus MOORESVILLE, NC –On November 10, 2023, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Detectives received a report from Lowes Home Improvement Corporate Security regarding a theft of heavy equipment from the Mooresville Lowes store. Detectives began an investigation and learned that an organized group was involved in the theft at the Mooresville store as well as additional thefts at numerous Lowes Home Improvement stores across the region. The investigation revealed that the suspect group would start by placing ads selling heavy equipment on social media. After victims responded to the ad and agreed to buy the piece of equipment, the suspect group would fraudulently rent the equipment at a Lowes store with the intent to sell the equipment to the unsuspecting victims. In early September 2022, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Detectives were asked to assist the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI) on a cold case investigation of a rape and attempted murder that occurred 38 years ago in Missouri. The cold case involved a rape and attempted murder that occurred on March 24, 1984, in Columbia, Missouri. The victim encountered an unknown suspect while walking to work and was abducted at knifepoint. The suspect drove the victim to a dead-end road where the victim was raped. The suspect then attempted to murder the victim and discard the victim’s body in a nearby creek. The victim sustained serious life-threatening injuries but survived. In 2020, the case was assigned to a cold case detective with Missouri’s Columbia Police Department (CPD) who utilized new DNA evidence technology to further the investigation. MOORESVILLE, NC – On January 21, 2024, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Detectives received a tip about inappropriate conduct on social media sites by an adult male, and Detectives began an investigation. The tip indicated that the suspect was using social media sites to attempt to meet with minors for sexual intercourse. The suspect was identified as Michael Dakota Richardson, 21 years old, of Mooresville. When confronted by Detectives, Richardson admitted that he had been trying to arrange a meeting with a minor for the purpose of sexual intercourse. Richardson was arrested and charged with (F) Solicitation of a Minor by Computer to Commit an Unlawful Sexual Act and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond. Richardson posted bond and was released. As part of the investigation, evidence was seized from Richardson’s home and examined by MPD Detectives.
