Huntersville Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Overdose Death




MOORESVILLE, NC – On September 28, 2022, Mooresville Police Department Detectives

began an investigation into the overdose death of 25-year-old William Carney. During the

investigation, Detectives learned that Tristan Randy Charles Strickland, 25 years old, of

Huntersville had provided Carney with the lethal dose of fentanyl.

On January 3, 2024, an Iredell County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment on

Strickland for one count of Second-Degree Murder and one count of Conspiracy to Possess with

Intent to Sell a Schedule I Controlled Substance.

On January 17, 2024, Strickland was arrested on the Indictment in Charlotte by the United States

Marshal Service. He was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $750,000

secured bond. The Mooresville Police Department would like to thank the Huntersville Police

Department and the United States Marshal Service for their help throughout the investigation.
