Anthony Josue Velasquez Alonzo MOORESVILLE, NC – On December 28, 2025, at approximately 12:29 a.m., a Mooresville Police Department officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on I-77. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and appeared to be racing two other vehicles on I-77 prior to the officer attempting to conduct a traffic stop. When the traffic stop was attempted, one vehicle failed to stop for the officer and the officer pursued that vehicle which fled north on I-77.  During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle exited the interstate at Exit 49A in Statesville and continued eastbound on US Highway 70 into Salisbury city limits. The vehicle stopped after turning onto Lash Drive and with the assistance of Rowan County Sheriff’s Office the driver was arrested.    The driver, Anthony Josue Velasquez Alonzo, 20, of Statesville, NC was arrested and the passenger of the vehicle was released at the scene. MOORESVILLE, NC – On December 12, 2025, at 9:04 p.m., the Mooresville Police Department received several phone calls from concerned citizens stating that they had heard several gunshots in the area of Lark Glen Drive in Mooresville. Along with the phone calls, Mooresville Police Department also received an alert of gunshots from ShotSpotter, an acoustic gunshot detection system. Officers arrived on scene and located several spent shell casings in the middle of the road on Lark Glen Drive. During the investigation, detectives determined two males were walking up Lark Glen Drive towards Selma Drive when they were fired upon by two subjects lying in wait by another apartment building. Detectives talked with both males, who stated that they do not know who fired upon them and that they did not fire back. MOORESVILLE, NC – The Town of Mooresville is actively addressing leaf season by increasing the number of vacuum trucks serving residents on scheduled collection days. Over the coming weeks, crews will pick up leaves in addition to normal garbage, recycling, and yard waste.  To make the leaf collection process as efficient as possible, please remember: Do not bag leaves Do not mix leaves with brush or other debris. MOORESVILLE, NC – On September 22, 2025, Narcotics Detectives with the Mooresville Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence located at 336 Alexander Street. During the search, detectives seized the following controlled substances: 1.85 ounces (52.9 grams) of cocaine, 6.5 grams of crack cocaine, and 4.9 ounces (140 grams) of marijuana.   As a result of the investigation, Bobby Nicholson, 46, of Mooresville   was arrested and charged with the following offenses: Trafficking in Cocaine Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine (2 counts) Felony Possession of Cocaine (2 counts) Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana Felony Possession of Marijuana Maintaining a Dwelling for the Sale of Narcotics Sale of Narcotics within 1,000 Feet of a School Possession of Drug Paraphernalia   Nicholson was taken to the Iredell County Jail where the magistrate held him under a $500,000 secure bond. MOORESVILLE, NC – On September 11, 2025, the Mooresville Police Department Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at 116 S. Magnolia St. in Mooresville. Detectives seized 30.7 grams of methamphetamine, along with seven grams of cocaine and $12,851 in cash.   James Gabriel Jr., 62, of Mooresville, was charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Felony Possession Schedule II, Felony Maintaining Dwelling, Maintaining/Sell/Deliver/ Possess Controlled Substance within 1,000 feet of a school, and Drug Paraphernalia. Gabriel was given a $350,000 bond. 

MOORESVILLE, NC – The Mooresville Police Department (MPD) announced that Second Assistant Chief Rhonda Faust recently graduated from the FBI National Academy (FBINA) as a member of the 295th session. The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on September 4th, 2025. Faust becomes the third officer in department’s history—and the first female MPD officer—to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, less than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.   Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. MOORESVILLE, NC – On August 30, 2025, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) officers responded to a disturbance call on N. Church St. One of the vehicles involved in the disturbance was located on Selma Dr. with four occupants. When officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, it pulled into a residential driveway. Two of the occupants then jumped from the vehicle and ran. One of the occupants was observed to have a handgun in his waistband while running away from the vehicle. After a brief foot pursuit, both individuals were apprehended. One of the individuals was a juvenile. The individual who was observed to be in possession of a firearm was later identified as Sirron Cordell Phiffer, 20, of Kings Mountain. MPD K-9 responded to the scene and conducted an article search of the immediate area where Phiffer was apprehended. A firearm was subsequently located.
