MOORESVILLE, NC – The Town of Mooresville recently announced the selection of Iredell County native Erika Martin as the Director of Planning & Community Development. Martin recently held the position of Interim Director of Planning & Community Development and will begin her role as Director immediately. “The Town's future is in good hands with Erika in this role,” said Assistant Town Manager Sherisha Hills. “Erika’s professionalism, proactive approach to solving issues, her years of experience, and the respect she has from her staff and peers has proven to us that she has the fortitude and passion to help move our Town forward in the right direction.” Martin joined the Town of Mooresville in January 2019 as a Transportation Planner. MOORESVILLE, NC – On September 28, 2022, Mooresville Police Department Detectives began an investigation into the overdose death of 25-year-old William Carney. During the investigation, Detectives learned that Tristan Randy Charles Strickland, 25 years old, of Huntersville had provided Carney with the lethal dose of fentanyl. On January 3, 2024, an Iredell County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment on Strickland for one count of Second-Degree Murder and one count of Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Sell a Schedule I Controlled Substance. On January 17, 2024, Strickland was arrested on the Indictment in Charlotte by the United States Marshal Service. He was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $750,000 secured bond. The Mooresville Police Department would like to thank the Huntersville Police Department and the United States Marshal Service for their help throughout the investigation.

MOORESVILLE, NC – On January 9, 2024, the Town of Mooresville had a discharge of untreated wastewater of an estimated 10,800 gallons at Reed Creek Pump Station, 253 Golf Course Drive, due to flash flooding from more than two inches of rain that fell in a short period of time. The untreated wastewater was discharged into Reed Creek. Upon inspection, the spill was not of a magnitude to cause immediate danger to human health or the environment. North Carolina General Statute 143-215.1C requires the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment system to issue a report when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Water Resources Division was notified of the spill on January 9 and is reviewing the matter.

MOORESVILLE, NC – On December 1, 2023, Mooresville Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of W. Wilson Avenue in reference to a call of reckless driving involving a truck spinning tires and traveling at a high rate of speed. While enroute to the scene, MPD Communications received a report of a similar vehicle being involved in a traffic crash on Hillside Drive. Upon their arrival, Officers found a 2023 Ford F-150 in the woods off the side of the roadway. Officers located the driver, 28-year-old Talian Jacques Troutman, walking away from the scene of the crash. When Officers reached the truck, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Based on the odor, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Inside the truck, Officers located approximately 65 grams of cocaine, 30 grams of fentanyl, 100 grams of marijuana, 35 pills of Alprazolam, a stolen 9mm pistol, and over $900 in cash. MOORESVILLE, NC – On November 1, 2023, Concord Police Department (CPD) requested assistance from Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Detectives in locating 35-year-old Xavier Antwone Blackwood who had outstanding warrants from CPD for Trafficking Fentanyl and Manufacturing a Controlled Substance. MPD Detectives located Blackwood at 412 E. McLelland Avenue and took him into custody without incident on November 1, 2023. At the time of his arrest, Blackwood was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and quantity of unknown powder-type substances. Blackwood was turned over to CPD and the items recovered during the arrest were placed into evidence at MPD. The unknown substances were sent to a lab for analysis, and the results came back as Fentanyl (more than four grams) and Cocaine. On November 21, 2023, MPD Detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of Blackwood for (F) Trafficking in Fentanyl, two counts of (F) Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Controlled Sub

Javon Anthony Latrayvion Oroyster Marcus  MOORESVILLE, NC –On November 10, 2023, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Detectives received a report from Lowes Home Improvement Corporate Security regarding a theft of heavy equipment from the Mooresville Lowes store. Detectives began an investigation and learned that an organized group was involved in the theft at the Mooresville store as well as additional thefts at numerous Lowes Home Improvement stores across the region. The investigation revealed that the suspect group would start by placing ads selling heavy equipment on social media. After victims responded to the ad and agreed to buy the piece of equipment, the suspect group would fraudulently rent the equipment at a Lowes store with the intent to sell the equipment to the unsuspecting victims. MPD Detectives located an ad placed by the group placed selling a large piece of equipment and set up a meeting to make a transaction. The suspect group agreed to bring the equipment—stolen f

  MOORESVILLE, NC – On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at approximately 3:44 a.m., Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Officers received a call from Lake Norman Regional Medical Center (LNRMC) regarding an individual who advised hospital staff he was planning to do harm to himself in his vehicle in the facility parking lot. LNRMC security observed the individual put a firearm in his pocket before he exited to the facility. Upon arriving on scene, MPD Officers observed the individual in the facility parking lot outside his vehicle holding a firearm. Officers issued multiple commands to drop the firearm. The individual initially complied, placing the firearm on the ground. The individual then picked up the firearm and posed a threat to the Officers. Officers immediately responded to the threat with one service weapon being discharged five times. The individual sustained multiple injuries. Officers immediately rendered lifesaving aid and transferred the individual to the care of LNRMC profes
