Town of Mooresville Enters Stage 2 Water Conservation Protocols Due to Drought Conditions

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – In response to the ongoing drought conditions in the region, the Town of Mooresville is implementing mandatory water use restrictions beginning May 8, 2026. These restrictions follow Stage 2 Low Inflow Protocol (LIP) guidance from the Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group (CW-DMAG). Residents and businesses that are within the Town limits and connected to the Town’s water system must comply with the following mandatory Stage 2 water conservation rules set by the Town’s emergency water conservation ordinance: Irrigation using sprinkler systems is limited to:  7 - 11:00 a.m.  6 - 10:00 p.m. Outside of these hours, all sprinkler use is prohibited Violations may result in fines on your utility bill and potential loss of service: Residential  $100 per violation Commercial  $200: 1 st violation  $500: 2 nd violation  $1,000: further violations Town of Mooresville is asking its residents to continue conserving water by avoiding the watering of yards and p...

Town of Mooresville Files Appeal to Stop Publication of the Mayor's Video

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – The Town of Mooresville is appealing the April 15, 2026, court order regarding Gray Local Media, Inc. v. Town of Mooresville, which sought the public release of Town Hall surveillance video. Following the advice of legal counsel, the appeal is based on strong concerns about the broad scope of the decision and future implications for the safety and security of municipal buildings. In the current order, all surveillance videos captured in any part of public buildings statewide could be considered public records. This includes video of any person in or around any public building including a police department, fire department, or courthouse. The expansive breadth of this order poses safety and security risks for public service workers and the community at large. Town of Mooresville Issues Moratorium Designed to Address Capacity of South Iredell Pump Station   MOORESVILLE, N.C. – The Town of Mooresville has issued a moratorium on development approvals specifically in the South Iredell Pump Station service area. This moratorium will ensure public health, environmental protection, and system reliability, providing time to design, permit, and construct needed infrastructure improvements. Under the newly adopted moratorium, which will last for up to 35 months, the Town is suspending development approvals for all new residential subdivisions, multi-family complexes, and non-residential projects. Certain exceptions apply, including projects with existing building or special use permits, approved site-specific vesting plans, and developments where substantial prior expenditures have already been made. Golf Cart Incident in Mooresville

**UPDATE** The Mooresville Police Department Traffic Unit has determined the victim was the front seat passenger of the low-speed vehicle (golf cart). During the course of travel, the passenger fell from the vehicle while it was making a left turn. Golf Cart Incident in Mooresville MOORESVILLE, NC – On March 23, 2026, at 5:14 p.m., Mooresville Police Department responded to a golf cart accident at the intersection of Swamp Rose Dr. & Golden Star Ln. involving several juveniles. One of the juveniles was seriously injured and later succumbed to those injuries. This incident is still under investigation, and the Mooresville Police Department will not release further details at this point. Our thoughts are with the families impacted during this difficult time.

Mooresville Fire-Rescue Chief Curt Deaton retires after 30 years of service

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Thirty years ago, Curt Deaton stepped into Mooresville Fire-Rescue (MFR) Station No. 1 as a full-time firefighter. On March 27, he retires from MFR after a distinguished career, serving the past 14 years as the department's fire chief.  “Chief Deaton’s dedication has benefited our residents, our businesses, and our visitors for the 30 years he has served the Town of Mooresville,” said Tracey Jerome, Mooresville Town Manager. “His leadership has helped to ensure that Mooresville Fire-Rescue is ready for the future, and for that, we are extremely grateful. Arrest for Possession of Narcotics in Town Park – One Subject Still Wanted

  MOORESVILLE, NC – On February 22, 2026, at 10:30 p.m., a Mooresville Police Department officer encountered two male subjects standing outside a parked car in the area of Selma Burke Recreation Center after hours. During the officer’s investigation, one subject, Nazir Cartrell Lowe, 20, of Salisbury, North Carolina, was detained. The second subject ran away on foot and eluded officers. He was later identified as Xavier Deion Lowe, 26, of Clemmons, North Carolina. MPD officers searched the subject’s car and discovered 430.6 grams of suspected marijuana. Nazir Lowe was later charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI, felony possession of schedule VI, and maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he received no bond. Arrest warrants for Xavier Deion Lowe have been obtained for similar narcotics offenses. Arrests Made for Amphetamine Trafficking,psilocybin mushrooms, 382 grams of marijuana, 25.6 grams of THC wax, 39 THC Pens, 23.5 grams of MDMA, 28.2 grams Adderall and a 9mm handgun. Manion was later arrested after the search of the vehicle. Magazine-Izzard was charged with three counts of Possession with intent to sell and deliver (PWISD) schedule VI; three counts of felony possession of schedule VI; two counts of PWISD Schedule I and PWISD Schedule II; two counts of trafficking Schedule II by possession and transportation; felony maintaining a vehicle for use or sale of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of firearm by felon; and felony carry of a concealed weapon. Manion was charged with three counts of PWISD Schedule VI; three counts of felony possession schedule VI; two counts of PWISD schedule I, PWISD schedule II; two counts of trafficking schedule II by possession and transportation; felony maintain vehicle; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Magazine-Izzard and Manion were transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where Magazine-Izzard received no bond, and Manion received a $350,000 secure bond. Mooresville Police Department Launches Drone First Responder Program

MOORESVILLE, NC — The Mooresville Police Department (MPD) has launched its new Drone First Responder (DFR) program is designed to get eyes on the scene faster and enhance public safety. The DFR program equips MPD with six drones — three stationed at MPD Headquarters and three at One Mooresville Center — that can respond to incidents within a 3.5-mile radius at speeds of up to 55 mph. This capability provides aerial coverage and critical support before officers and first responders arrive on scene. A trained operator, based in the Mooresville Police Department headquarters, will launch and pilot the drone when the nature of a 911 call warrants it. The pilot communicates with officers on scene or en route, to deliver real-time situational awareness.   Mooresville Police Arrest Individual for Solicitation of a Child by Electronic Device MOORESVILLE, NC – On January 22, 2026, officers with the Mooresville Police Department arrested Michael Wilson Lesswing, 55, of Lincolnton, North Carolina, on charges related to Solicitation of a Child by Electronic Device and Solicitation of Prostitution of a Minor. The investigation revealed that the suspect used an electronic communication device to engage in inappropriate and unlawful communicationwith a minor. Lesswing initiated a conversation to have sexual relations with a minor at a predetermined location. He arrived at that location and was subsequently taken into police custody without incident. MPD detectives worked diligently to identify the suspect and gather evidence, which ultimately led to the arrest. DOLLAR TREE ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT APPREHENDED

MOORESVILLE, NC – On January 4, 2026, the Mooresville Police Department received a call for service in reference to an armed robbery at Dollar Tree located at 221-R Norman Station Blvd. Responding officers viewed surveillance footage from inside the store that showed a male suspect entering the store, approaching the employees, and producing a handgun. The suspect demanded the employees give him all of the money in the safe in the store office. Once the suspect had the money, he took the store’s phone and left the store.   Through investigation, it was learned that multiple armed robberies occurred at various Dollar Trees in other jurisdictions within the week prior to this robbery. Detectives  determined that the suspect vehicle was a dark colored Honda sedan. Through further investigation, detectives identified a suspect through this lead. HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION Mazeppa Park

MOORESVILLE, NC – On December 29, 2025, at approximately 8:29 p.m., Mooresville Police Department responded to Mazeppa Park regarding a reported shooting. When officers arrived at the park, they found two juveniles had been shot. One victim was pronounced dead by Iredell EMS, and the second victim was transported to Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital with a gunshot wound.     After further investigation, it was determined that the shooting was part of an attempted armed robbery for THC vape pens. The suspects arranged a meeting at Mazeppa Park under the premise of purchasing THC vape pens. Shots were fired by both parties during the robbery, and one party left the park in a vehicle prior to officers arriving. Anthony Josue Velasquez Alonzo MOORESVILLE, NC – On December 28, 2025, at approximately 12:29 a.m., a Mooresville Police Department officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on I-77. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and appeared to be racing two other vehicles on I-77 prior to the officer attempting to conduct a traffic stop. When the traffic stop was attempted, one vehicle failed to stop for the officer and the officer pursued that vehicle which fled north on I-77.  During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle exited the interstate at Exit 49A in Statesville and continued eastbound on US Highway 70 into Salisbury city limits. The vehicle stopped after turning onto Lash Drive and with the assistance of Rowan County Sheriff’s Office the driver was arrested.    The driver, Anthony Josue Velasquez Alonzo, 20, of Statesville, NC was arrested and the passenger of the vehicle was released at the scene. Mooresville Police Department Investigates Weekend Shootings

MOORESVILLE, NC – On December 12, 2025, at 9:04 p.m., the Mooresville Police Department received several phone calls from concerned citizens stating that they had heard several gunshots in the area of Lark Glen Drive in Mooresville. Along with the phone calls, Mooresville Police Department also received an alert of gunshots from ShotSpotter, an acoustic gunshot detection system. Officers arrived on scene and located several spent shell casings in the middle of the road on Lark Glen Drive. During the investigation, detectives determined two males were walking up Lark Glen Drive towards Selma Drive when they were fired upon by two subjects lying in wait by another apartment building. Detectives talked with both males, who stated that they do not know who fired upon them and that they did not fire back. MOORESVILLE, NC – The Town of Mooresville is actively addressing leaf season by increasing the number of vacuum trucks serving residents on scheduled collection days. Over the coming weeks, crews will pick up leaves in addition to normal garbage, recycling, and yard waste.  To make the leaf collection process as efficient as possible, please remember: Do not bag leaves Do not mix leaves with brush or other debris. The Town does not pick up mulch, dirt, and rocks Do not park in front of or within three feet of leaf piles Do not place leaves near storm drains.
